I. Study Skills: The Theory of Multiple Intelligence

The Theory of Multiple Intelligence

Different ways of learning.
Some people may learn new things by saying them outloud, by writing them over and over, by visualizing them, or practicing with their hands. EVERYONE can learn-- and we all learn differently. A researcher named Howard Gardner realized that the different ways people learn correspond to different parts of the brain. Individuals use different parts of their brains more frequently. Body, people, word, logic, nature, self, picture, and music are the different strengths. This is called the “theory of multiple intelligence.”

How can understanding multiple intelligence help you?
If you know what your strengths are, you can strategize your learning and studying. Are you body smart? When you study your vocabulary words, you can act them out with your body. Are you nature smart? You can relate your vocab to things you see outside. Are you self smart? You can use your words to describe your personal thoughts and feelings.

So what do you think YOUR strengths are?
Take the next quiz to find out. Then consider how knowing your strengths can help you in school and beyond.
