Look, Think and Write Assignment:

Look at the pictures below.
Slow down. Look at the top. Look at the bottom. Look at the left. Look at the right.

Choose a person, animal or object in the pictures. Put yourself in their mind.
What do they see? What do they believe? What do they wish for?

In your comment, write with the voice of your chosen person, animal or object. Address a person, animal, or object in ANOTHER picture. Explain what you see, believe, and wish for. Add one more thought-- what do you want them to remember about you?

See the first comment below for an example. Remember, your comment needs to include:

  • Who you are (which character from which painting)
  • Who you are talking to (which character from which painting)
  • What you see, believe, and wish for
  • What you want that other character to remember about you after you're gone.

Good luck!

  1. Dear little girl sleeping on the lauhala mat in "Lei Making."
I am the seal coming up for air in "Manifest Destiny." I want to tell you a little about myself, so that you can remember me, and tell my story to others. I see the ruins and wrecked metal bones of the human world. I believe I will survive-- I and the rats, the eels, the strong and strange fish. But I wish these waters were cleaner, and that the humans had worked to keep their world clean while they had the chance. But now it is to late for them, and for many of us animals.
Remember that, little girl. The world is fragile. Some of us might survive-- but unless you wake up and take care of the ocean and the earth, you will not.

  2. NYC i am drowning, i have seen a lot of people walking, driving and living all over me, i have seen every sewer line travel threw my body, i know every road, tunnels and ally way, its all on the back of my head. Now I see life that I have never seen before, im drowning, but its a beautiful thing, i see every under water creature, its like nothing I have ever seen before, im slowly dieing, but as i die, i have never seen anything so beautiful in my life. I believe without me, there wouldn't have bin anywhere to survive, without me, i believe there wouldn't have a lot of movies to film, without me, there wouldn't have any human life at all. I wish to be healthy, and fresh, like how i feel right now, when i was dry, iv'e been getting polluted all my life, there was trash all over me, there was sewage flowing threw my body, but now, i am fresh as the see, because it flows through me.

  6. Dear lady with the flower in her ear. I am the ocean hat washes up on the shore. I want you, your friends and family to remember me and tell them all about me. I see you guys having fun, relaxing, splashing water, and happy. I believe that what you guys do makes me happy. I just wish that other people won't have to destroy my home by throwing rubbish, pollution, and most of all boating. All those things are killing my family and friends and it's also killing me slowly. I don't want to see you guys sad, I want to see you guys happy and having fun. Nothing in the world would do anything to see you guys happy. But I just wish everyone would take of my home. And I want you to know because you like a king, caring and loving lady that would do anything from her heart. So when I'm gone, I can count on you for telling your friends and family all about me.

  7. Dear Mr.Trigger fish swimming by the jellyfish. I am the little hawaiian girl in the tree "Making A Lei". I wanted to tell that I've always wanted to be in the water, cause every time I look in the ocean and go in the water, I feel like I'm apart of the ocean. Also every time I go see the ocean, I always believed and I wish I could be the ocean.

  8. Dear young little girl in the naupaka tree making a puamelia lei, I would like to introduce myself I am govenor boki of the island of O'ahu and this is my beautiful wife Liliha. We cannot help but notice how depressed you look after the over throw of our queen lili'uokalani, I understand what happened was't right but if I could I would reverse the whole thing all over again, I know it has been very to live in a world where we can't speak hawaiian in our islands, but what happened that time is now over, think about all the positive things that our kings and queens did for us before they passed, she imprisoned herself for her people she had much aloha for her people, you should be very proud of who you are because not many people do this for their people. I want you to remember that you are a kanaka and kanakas stand proud of their lahui through think and thin and will never give up, never give up on the hawaiians, the culture, the language, the people especially yourself. I wish I cant reverse the past but ke akua will bless us with a new one, so keiki don't be shy to show the world who you are, show them so they know that you are a Kanaka of the hawaiian islands. I want you to remember this when I'm gone and pass it down to others and your keiki this will be very helpful. A Hui Hou! Untill we meet again...

  9. Dear little girl making the lei in the "lei making" picture. I am the ocean spray. I have watched you and your sister grow day to day. But there is something wrong your sister is terribly ill. I want you to make this lei for her. All i want is to hear her laughter once more, and to see her lovely smile. Seeing her like this is like my soul is burning. Burning with sadness and fear. I will give anything to make her better. I want you to go up to her and whisper for me, "I am the one to keep you safe. I will keep you away from the arms of death and harm. Whatever I do is for you. This lei is for you. I would do anything to make you better. I know how you feel being trapped in sickness thinking there is no way out. Iʻm here to tell you that there is, and iʻm here for you". And you little girl if you take care of your sister for me i will take care of you for as long as you live if you promise. And i promise you i will malama you.
    ~Amen

  10. Wassup govenor boki in the "govenor" picture. My name is two tailed salmon from the "Manifest Destiny". I have one question for you, have you ever seen a salmon in Hawai'i in your time because I believe that if we have salmon nowadays, I bet you that there was a salmon in Hawai'i in your life time. Another big thing is that I wish that you don't tell anyone what I said, because it is true, there are salmons in Hawai'i. Just remember that my name is Hanohano, wait, I meant two tailed salmon. MAHALO.

  11. Dear ocean behind the littel brat creating the flower lei. I admire your lovely blueness and sent, your just amazing. "Oh" how rude of my self I did not tell you who your admirer is, well I am the amazing bird in " Manifest destiny " panting. So since we are friends now "right" well, I am the bird with the stick in front of it's face, that reminds, every one else in the panting can see so many things every day, but me, because there is a huge stick in front of my face, so all I see is a stick when I wake up and fall asleep. But what I believe is that one day I could move from this panting and go explore the world. And thats how every one will remember me as, the bird who flew out of the panting. Now enough chit chat about me, lets talk about you...well are you going to say any thing. Well are ya!!

    1. Interesting word choices! "Brat" next to "lovely blueness"-- does the bird have mixed feelings about things?

  13. Dear, little girl making a beautiful lei on that lovely tree. I am the sun who wakes you up every morning and watches over you. I want to tell you a little about myself, I want you to remember me and tell others who I really am. I'm not just a sun who watches over you, and wakes you up in the morning, or even just shines light during the day. I help grow your plants, your food with out me you'll have nothing to eat, I also am a sister of the moon, we made a promise that we would take turns watching over you, (We need to sleep at some point and so do you). I want you to spread the word, and please remember me and cherish me as I will always watch over you.

  15. Dear little girl,
I am a shrimp from the future writing to you as a warning. 100 year from today a ting called the tragedy will happen. This will be a day of horrible storms. The storm will happen at 10:27 in the morning. After hours of wind and rain, the diamond dam broke and flooded the entire city. This created a huge ocean that is now my home. I live with many types of deadly fish and seahorses. This happened because the people in your time did not take care of the earth. This caused globe warming, that created too much water. I send this message as a warning to you to take care of your plane you only have one. By:Haunani

  17. Dear little girl making the lei in the "Lei making" picture. I am the eagle from the "Manifest Destiny" picture. I can see the eyes of many from up here. I see all good in the world. And all the pain and suffering... Anybody can break and destroy. But it takes one of true power and good hearted ness to create and fix and heal something. That is why I have chosen you little girl making the lei. This world needs more people like you. The power to create. Create something with something that has almost zero to no signifigence. Then make it in to something so beautiful. Full with joy and happiness. You are the key for this worlds peace. Join me on my quest. By: Mo-Z

I AM THE PLUMERIA! You say you are a true Hawaiian, yet you didnt ask NOBODY to pick me. I was in my prime. I was young and beautiful, ready to live my life. My brother,my mom, my dad they all lived their life to the fullest! Which I was planning to do. Next time you want to make leis, At least give an 'oli or somethin'. Remember me and how hard it was.
